DocFest is happy to announce our new Program Coordinator, Cody Bennett. Cody comes to us from the local Belleville production company EightyTwenty Studio where he served as the Production Coordinator for Stoney Lonesome. He is a recent graduate of Humber College’s Film and Television Production program and director of the short doc Love Beyond Accessibility. Cody is looking forward to bringing his passion for local filmmaking to his role at DocFest.

Now that we have a Program Coordinator we can go full swing into planning the festival. We are planning to present a hybrid film festival in 2022. Audiences will be able to view the festival’s films and participate in special streamed events. We learned a lot about going virtual with our 2021 festival and the importance of remaining adaptable as COVID safety measures change. We hope to provide greater accessibility to our audience as we explore hybrid options.

DocFest has worked hard to build a reputation as the little festival that could and we proved that with our successful transition to a virtual festival. We still managed to draw some of the biggest filmmakers in the country to present their films virtually. Notable guests included Canadian Screen Award Nominee Sergeo Kirby, producer of The Forbidden Reel, director Slater Jewell-Kemker, director of The Unstoppable Youth, and award-winning Toronto-based director/producer Paul Saltzman with Meeting the Beatles in India.

The DocFest team is excited to present another virtual film festival in 2022 with the hope of providing the option to safely celebrate with some in-theatre screenings with our supportive community. Passes will go on sale in December. Stay tuned for film and event announcements.
