A pioneering Black transgender soul singer, Jackie Shane was a leading figure in Toronto’s music scene in the late 60’s. Often compared with R&B greats Etta James and Little Richard, Shane was at the top of her career when she withdrew from public life in 1971.
Drawing on interviews and using rotoscope animation to evoke her performances, the film explores her spectacular talent, turbulent career, and why she suddenly disappeared from public life.
”a talent so striking you’ll be amazed it remained forgotten for so long.” Dennis Harvey, Variety
