Black Box Diaries

3:30 PM – Saturday February 22, 2025 – Belleville Theatre Guild

After being sexually assaulted by a prominent television commentator, Japanese journalist Shiori Ito seeks justice only to face obstacles at every turn. When the criminal case is dropped for no reason, Ito sues her assailant.

Produced and directed by Ito herself, the film documents her investigation into the assault, her journey through the Japanese legal system, and sheds light on the country’s outdated sexual assault laws.

“Itō is an amazing personality: an intelligent, courageous journalist who may have changed the course of Japanese history.”, Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
