Janis Ian: Breaking Silence

12:00 PM – Sunday, February 23, 2025 – John Parrot Art Gallery

The singer-songwriter Janis Ian had her first hit at the age of 14. The inter-racial theme of the song “Society’s Child” meant it was banned by radio stations across America. Her next hit “At Seventeen”, dealing with teen pain and rejection, earned her the first of two Grammy Awards.

In the intervening years, Ian earned 10 Grammy nominations while surmounting homophobia and a critical illness to connect with millions of fans the world over.

“the agony and heartbreak of being rejected as a person”, Marvin Glassman, Miami Art Zine
