The Nine Lives of Barbara Dane

2:30 PM – Sunday, February 23, 2025 – John Parrot Art Gallery

A rising star in the late 1950s, Barbara Dane performed with legends including Louis Armstrong, Lightnin’ Hopkins, and Bob Dylan, and Joan Baez. She was equally passionate about social justice, civil rights, and peace supporting the campaign to register Black voters in Mississippi as well as the movement to end the Vietnam War.

The film shows her at the age of 90 as she tours in support of a recent recording. An amazing story about a musician who shared stages with the best of jazz, blues, and folk music and an activist who championed the social justice movements of the 20th century.

“…an underground history of a singer-agitator whose unbending principles guide her through notoriety, obscurity, and finally, music legend.” Films We Like
