OPENING Reception – Monday, March 2nd from 5-8pm | CORE Gallery – 223 Pinnacle Street
(Closes Sunday, March 7th)
Over the past few years, there has probably been no greater force for change, and certainly no greater hope for change, than our young people. Both globally and locally, from the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School fighting gun violence to Greta Thunberg and the members of the Student Climate Strike fighting global warming to students from the Quinte Region fighting against cutbacks to education, young people are no longer looking for role models – they are the role models.
That’s the message of the global youth movement; it’s also the message of this year’s DocFest art show. I’m the Role Model features the work of young people from across the Quinte Region. It’s an expression of who they are and what they are thinking and what they are thinking about, whether it be social justice or the environment or gender identity and equality or simply what it’s like to be young in today’s world.
I’m the Role Model opens on Monday, March 2 at the Gallery on the second floor of the CORE Arts & Culture at 223 Pinnacle Street and runs through March 7. Join us for the opening reception on March 2 from 5 to 8 pm. Everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served.
