City of Belleville,
Elexicon Energy

Beautifully filmed over three years in an isolated mountain area in Macedonia, a middle-aged beekeeper lives with her ailing mother, in a home without electricity or running water. The unexpected arrival of a neighbouring family disturbs her tranquil existence. Approaching the newcomers with an open heart, she willingly shares her expertise, but tensions rise. It’s a portrait of one woman’s resilience, a glimpse at a fast disappearing way of life, and a microcosm for our modern world. (Sundance & Critics’ Choice winner; HotDocs selection; Oscar nominee)

“A sensitivity to both petty human concerns and striking natural beauty is what makes Honeyland a particularly enthralling documentary.” – David Sims, The Atlantic
