Love in the Time of Fentanyl
An intimate portrait of current and former drug users coming together to operate a safe injection site in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, sometimes referred to as ground zero of the overdose crisis.
The Overdose Prevention Society is willing to do whatever it takes to keep people alive and give hope to a community that has lost many members to overdose. A self-proclaimed group of misfits, artists, and drug users operates this safe injection site in a Vancouver neighbourhood ravaged by the overdose crisis. The film looks beyond the stigma of drug use to show the perseverance, determination, and love shown by those trying to create awareness and save lives.
”…it doesn’t offer easy answers, but rather a patchwork that admits the war on drugs is lost, partly because of how poverty and mental health are marginalized even in first-world countries. You really cannot fix one without broader changes and a larger social net.“ John Fink, The Film Stage
