The Art of Silence
In this first feature documentary about legendary pantomime artist Marcel Marceau’s life, director Maurizius Staerkle Drux portrays the performer behind the mask as a complex, sensitive and compassionate man whose art was rooted in the human experience. The film chronicles Marceu’s life, his work and the generations of artists following in Marceau’s footsteps, including his own grandson.
In his third documentary, Swiss filmmaker Maurizius Staerkle Drux combines exclusive archive material to weave a narrative of Marceau’s multi- faceted life, his personal history and emergence in post war Europe with a contemporary look at the art of silence.
“Through masterful editing, Staerkle Drux’s film brings these moments to vivid life by intertwining archival footage from the war, interviews with his loved ones, and well picked excepts from Marceau’s performances.” – Courtney Small, May 2022, POV Magazine
