“In the process, they must face the personal costs of leadership, even as their own lives and identities are transformed by one of the great political and cultural events of the early 21st century.” 

We are taken inside the roots of the resistance movement to protest the Dakota Access oil pipeline, as the pipeline is pushed through and edging towards lands and waters of the Sioux indigenous people of South Dakota. We meet and learn the stories of four indigenous women who, alongside the banks of the Missouri River, are encamped and under threat from increasingly militarized private and police forces turned against them. While the movement and camp evolves, the film takes us along with these women who’s leadership defined it.
